Woolston Picture House
The Woolston Picture House, opened on Portsmouth Road in 1913, was the second purpose-built cinema in the Southampton area (Woolston was not incorporated into the borough until 1920), after the Atherley in Shirley. It was popular as a neighbourhood and family cinema and remained in business for sixty years, before closing in September 1973. It has since been used as a bingo hall (image 2).
