The ‘Porta Lanarum’ is first in mentioned 1396, where a lane is said to lie between the new gate called ‘Water Gate’ and the ‘Wool Gate’, i.e. Porter’s Lane extended westwards. The gate is still traceable on the west side of Bugle Street immediately south of the Royal Southern Yacht Club premises. It presumably led to the Woolbridge.
