Witts Hill is in the Townhill Park area of the city and may have been named after one of the several families of the name of Witt that were recorded as living in the area in the mid 19th century. A William Witt is listed in the 1850 street directory as a woodman and in later directories as a coal and timber merchant. He and his son, also called William, held Benhams Farm until the early years of the 20th century.
