Whitworth Crescent and Road, which run between Bitterne Park Triangle and McNaughten Road in Bitterne Park, were built in the late 19th century by the National Liberal Land Company (after 1893, the National Land Company). They were named after Joseph Whitworth, a mechanical engineer from the north of England who was created a baronet in 1869.
