Western Shore
The name is today applied loosely to the medieval shore line, represented by Western Esplanade and West Quay. In the 19th century the name was applied more specifically to the stretch between West Quay and what was then Manchester Street.
Western Shore Road was the 19th century name for the portion of Western Esplanade east of Manchester Street, i.e. part of the original Canshut Lane.
