Walnut Avenue and Cottage
Swaythling Housing Society, established by Herbert Collins and others in 1925, purchased land for housing development in the Wide Lane / Mansbridge Road area of Swaythling in the 1920s. The houses in Pilgrim Place, off Mansbridge Road, were the first to be built. An existing stable block was converted to a house and named Walnut Cottage. Development continued along Wide Lane to Walnut Avenue, which was built in the early 1930s.
