Vulcan Ironworks
For the years either side of 1860 Charles Kerman was in business as an iron founder, millwright and engineer at Vulcan Ironworks, situated on the east side of Tanner’s Brook near the west end of modern Mill Road in Millbrook. Kerman was probably responsible for building Vulcan Terrace, a row of small houses on the north side of Millbrook Road just east of modern King George’s Avenue, originally to house his workmen. Vulcan Road and Vulcan Close are modern reminders of the iron works.
