Test Parliament Constituency
This constituency comprises all the western districts of the city, reaching the River Test at Redbridge ward. It was created in 1950 when the former two-member borough constituency was divided. In 1997 St Luke’s ward was gained from Southampton Itchen, and Bassett was transferred to the new Romsey constituency. It is a marginal constituency and has been held by both main parties. In 1950 it was won by Horace Maybray King (Labour) who went on to become Speaker of the House of Commons.
