The Sussex Hotel was situated on the corner of Above Bar Street and Sussex Terrace. The building dates from the 1830s, although it did not become a public house until 1857. Originally called the Sussex Tavern, it was known as the Sussex Arms and The Sussex before becoming the Sussex Hotel in the 20th century. It was demolished in 1961 as part of a road widening scheme. A replacement was built on the same site, but this was closed and sold in 1967.
