Le Strond, or Le Strand as it was more often called, was the traditional medieval name for the western shore line, approximating to the line of Western Esplanade and Blechynden Terrace. The word ‘strand’ was an alternative to shore. The original spelling was retained to avoid confusion with The Strand, a name used for a different locality into modern times, (see above).
