St Denys station opened as Portswood Station in 1861, after local residents complained about the great distance between them and the stations in the town. This first station was built on a site just north of the road bridge but, after the branch line to Netley opened in 1866, a new station was built on the present site. It was renamed St Denys Station in 1876. The main building and booking hall is Grade II listed.
