Sir Bevois Hill
This is a name occurring on the 1658 map of Portswood and St Denys, apparently denoting the high ground west of Bevois Valley Road. This became ‘The Mount’ in the Earl of Peterborough’s Bevois Lodge estate in the 18th century. The name is continued today by that portion of the main road that climbs towards Portswood Road.
