Shirley’s earliest Baptist community met in a schoolroom in Vincent’s Grove from c.1841. The first purpose-built chapel was built in Church Street in 1852. It was replaced by a new church, also in Church Street, in 1914-15, the original building becoming the Baptist Church Hall. It was demolished in 1981 and replaced by a new church hall.
