Redcote Convent
The Redcote Convent, formerly situated on the east side of Shales Road in Bitterne, was established in1904 by nuns from the order of Our Lady of Charity who had been forced to leave their convent at Mons Bariel, Brittany by French anti-clerical laws. They set up a convent in Bitterne and became famed for charity work, particularly with children from broken homes. They also operated a commercial laundry which was their main source of income.
