Pilgrim's Gate
A medieval name for the seaward gate in the west wall otherwise known as Biddle's Gate. The name seems to be derived its use by pilgrims from Spain and Western France who would have landed at the West Hithe and entered the town at the bottom end of Simnel Street on their way to Winchester and Canterbury.
