Orchards Way is part of the Uplands estate in Highfield, designed and built by Herbert Collins in the 1920s and 1930s. The first houses in Orchards Way were built in 1924. This initial phase consisted of terraced houses arranged around a green. A series of semi-detached houses followed in 1926 and another terrace in 1927. Later development along Orchards Way tended to be higher density terraced housing.
