Until 2010 this building, standing on the east side of Romsey Road just north of the junction with Winchester Road, was the last remaining thatched public house in Southampton. It is a pebbledashed, two-storey building under a hipped thatched roof which sweeps down to the ground floor on each side. The date of build is unknown, but the Southampton volume of Hampshire Treasures has its date as c.18th century. It was used for retailing alcohol from at least the 1890s when it was a beer house belonging to Alice Saunders. It closed as a public house in 2010.
