Notebeme's Tower
A mid-15th century name for the first tower south-east of the Water Gate, otherwise called Watchbell Tower, and later Canute's Tower. Apparently it was a circular tower, rather higher than most in this system, on the site later occupied by the Sun Inn. The name is that of an early 15th century occupier, John Notebeme.
