Northampton Castle
In the 18th century Northampton Castle was a large house situated near the banks of the Itchen in Crabniton, on a site that was later occupied by the gas works. A map of 1770 shows a folly to the east of St Mary's church near the shore. This folly is probably Northampton Castle which had just been built.
