The Jonas Nichols Fountain was presented to the town by Jonas Nichols (1836-91) in 1882 to commemorate his son Sidney attaining his majority. The fountain was originally sited at Six Dials but was moved to Kingsland Square, Bevois Street in 1904. In 1990 this part of Bevois Street was renamed Jonas Nichols Square.
