New Road, no. 2
This three-storey, yellow-brick building stands on the east corner of New Road and Palmerston Road and forms a group of five Regency-style houses with nos. 30-33 Palmerston Road which are situated on its immediate south. It was built c.1825 and was originally known as Osborne House; it is named thus on the 1845 Town Map. It was occupied by department store owner Edwin Jones from 1890 until about 1927, after which it became a boarding house. In 1960 it was renamed New Australia House, and housed the offices of an insurance company. It is currently (2015) occupied by estate agents.
