This is a small but picturesque house now called 1 Chessel Avenue, Bitterne. It was formerly one of three lodges to Chessel House, a large country house that once stood to the north west of Chessel Avenue. The two stone pillars that now stand at the drive of Magellan once flanked the main entrance to the house. Chessel House was demolished in the 1920s, but Magellan still survives.
