Mary Lankester (1830-1914) was the wife of William Goddard Lankester whose family owned the Lankester iron foundry in Bernard Street and an ironmongers shop on the High Street. William Goddard was, along with Basil Wilberforce (rector of St Mary's Church) and Mrs Eliot Yorke, one of the leading organizers of the temperance movement in Southampton. When he died in 1895, his widow became honorary treasurer of the movement.
