This church, situated on South Front facing Hoglands Park, was opened in 1884 as a Primitive Methodist church, the foundation stone being laid by Edwin Jones. The architects were J Kerridge and Sons and the builder was H Wyeth. The Methodists worshipped here until 1930, the eve of Methodist re-union. It then became South Front Evangelical church. The Baptists acquired the property after World War Two until the 1970s when it fell into disuse. It was demolished in 1978 (see clipping below) to make way for housing.
