King Street runs from East Street to Orchard Lane. Its main north / south line was formerly the key to a number of Victorian streets, most of which disappeared in the mid-1930s slum clearances. The King Street Rookery, dating back to the early years of the 19th century, was notorious. King Street is shown on Milne's map of 1791, but it is unnamed. It is shown and named on a map of 1802.
