King John's Pond
This is a traditional name for the pond that formerly occupied a site immediately east of the northern part of Western Esplanade. It was apparently fed by the Goswell Stream from Lubery Mead and another stream that flowed between West Park Road and Kingsbridge Road. In Tudor times it was called Hill Pond. W. H. Rogers (Guide to Southampton, 1894) says the site is that occupied by the former nos. 33-38 Weymouth Terrace.
