The Junction is the late Victorian / Edwardian name for the intersection between Above Bar Street and Commercial Road. It received its name in 1879 following the laying of Southampton’s first tramways. This was the spot where the Shirley branch line met the main line which ran from the Terminus Station to Portswood.
