Itchenworth
A name appearing only in the town's early perambulations and apparently relating to the immediate vicinity of what became the ferry terminal at Crosshouse Hard. L A Burgess suggested that the base of the Cross House could possibly be the Itchenworth boundary cross mentioned in the documents.
The name probably suggests an early stockaded settlement on the river bank at this point, i.e. at the end of the long bar of the lagoon.
