This is a public sports field lying between Palmerston Road, South Front, St. Mary's Place and Houndwell Place. It has traditionally been a venue for cricket and it is marked as a public cricket ground on the OS 1:2500 map of 1880. Its medieval use was as arable land, divided into acre strips, but it was not one of the common fields of the town. The name indicates an early use, which must be pre-Conquest, as pasture for swine.
