This memorial is a tall unadorned obelisk on a square base commemorating Whig politician Charles James Fox. It was erected in 1810 in the grounds of Mayfield House by his admirer and friend William Chamberlayne of Weston Grove. Oddly, Fox's name does not appear on the memorial. Mayfield House and grounds was acquired by the council in 1937. The house was demolished and the obelisk now stands in a public park. Obelisk Road in Woolston was named after the memorial.
