Fitzroy House
According to ‘Townsman’ (Occasional Notes 2nd Series, p73), Fitzroy House was situated at the corner of Carlton Crescent and Bellevue Place (on the west side of London Road) and was named after a family descended from Charles II. However, the Town Map of 1845-46 shows Fitzroy House as the third house south of the corner. Sales notices from 1832 and 1839 9see clippings below), when it was offered for sale with nearby Clarence Lodge, describe it as a substantial property with a coach-house and stables to the rear.
