Fisherman's Quay
The medieval quay immediately west of Blue Anchor Gate and apparently identical with Galleys Quay. The presence of the fish market in St. Michael's Square suggests that fish were normally landed here. For a discussion of Southampton's fish trade see 'Commodities: Fish' by John Hare in English Inland Trade 1430-1540: Southampton and its Region, by Michael Hicks (ed.), p147-152. (HS/h)
