Feverell's Lane
In the 17th century this was a lane off the west side of the High Street in Holy Rood parish. From the town records it seems it could have been any one of a number of lanes south of New Corner. One entry in the corporation leases adds “within the walls of the town” thus suggesting Porters' Lane. This is perhaps confirmed by evidence in another lease by which Walter Feverell in 1600 held Brewers' Tower and adjoining lands. Another document of 1739 gives dimensions south of Feverell's Lane which seem improbably large for this location, but on balance this identification seems plausible.
