On 19th June 1928 Amelia Earhart’s plane Friendship landed near the Floating Bridge in Woolston after flying solo across the Atlantic. Earhart was the first woman to achieve this feat. She was welcomed by Hubert Scott-Paine as she stepped ashore and was then given a civic reception.
