This four-storey red-brick warehouse, situated on the west side of French Street, was built in Art Nouveau style in 1903 by architect Francis William Wade. On the southern elevation of the building is painted “May & Wade, Export Grocers, Shipping Contractors”. May and Wade were the original occupants of the building. It was acquired by the city council in 1983 and has since been used as a store for the Archaeology Department. It is Grade II listed.
