A name not found in local place name usage but used to describe the medieval way along which cattle were driven between the walled town and the Common pasture. It comprised the whole of the lower Avenue and the Inner Avenue with Cavendish Grove. The Drove narrowed opposite modern Avenue Road where markers still indicate the site of the gates, which in earliest times was the only point at which animals could be admitted to the Common.
