Thomas Creswick (1811-1869) was a Sheffield-born landscape painter and illustrator. He was one of the best-known members of the Birmingham School of landscape painters, and became a full member of the Royal Academy in 1850. It is not known when or how often he visited Southampton, but an early-19th century watercolour of God’s House Tower and the Platform (formerly in the Lancaster Collection) is by Creswick (see 'Townsman's', Occasional Notes, 2nd Series p34).
