This spring rises on the east side of Hill Lane at the south end of what used to be the grounds of Nazareth House and is covered by the magnificent conduit head erected by the Friars Minor in 1290. Water was piped from here to their friary in the lower walled town and to the town in general. The Colwell Spring remained the major source of ground water for the town for over 500 years.
