Chapel Road
This road runs south of St. Mary's Church from St. Mary Street to Albert Road and represents the north shore and quayside of the original lagoon, later the Salt Marsh. Trinity Chapel and Chapel Mill were at the east end, St. Mary's and the Chantry at the west end. In the 18th century it was known as Chapel Lane. It is likely also to delimit the boundary of the mid-Saxon settlement of Hamwic.
Businesses in Chapel Road included:
- The Floating Bridge Tavern at number 31 (1840s).
