This lane in Thornhill was named after William Candy who purchased 57 acres of Thornhill Farm in 1923. He ran the farm until 1937, keeping a variety of livestock, growing wheat and fruit and keeping bees. In 1937 he sold most of his land to Alfred Udall, a local builder of Bitterne Park.
