An early 19th century name for the inn situated on the south side of Porters Lane at the junction with the High Street. This inn incorporated the western tower of the old Water Gate in its fabric; the rest of the Water Gate being demolished in c.1804. The inn was renamed the Castle Hotel in c.1825.
