As the name implies this public house, situated on West End Road in Bitterne, had its own brewery when it first opened in the mid-19th century. Brewing on the site ceased before World War one, and the brewery building was demolished in 1926, the business continuing as a public house. It was severely damaged during World War Two and rebuilt in 1952 (clipping below).
