Situated at the corner of Chetwynd Road and Glen Eyre Road, Bassett House was built in the 1850s (it is first recorded in a street directory of 1855). The house, originally a single substantial residence, was divided into seven flats in c.1950, and acquired by the University of Southampton for student accommodation in 1966. Plans to demolish the house in 2012 were met with local opposition.
