This was one of three large houses (the other two being Boldrewood and Beechcroft) which formerly stood on the north side of Burgess Road near the junction with the Avenue. The houses were demolished in the 1960s and the University of Southampton’s School of Medicine and Biological Sciences was built on the site. In the inter-war years Arlington was the residence of Kenneth H Vickers, Principal of Hartley College.
