Angel Inn, Bitterne High Street
This old coaching inn was situated on the south side of Bitterne High Street near its junction with West End Road. It was built before 1840 and was a familiar landmark in Bitterne until its demolition in 1972 to make way for an extension to the Sainsbury's store. It is remembered in the street name Angel Crescent. In the photograph below, note the dummy front to the inn, which obscures the fact that it was only a two-storey building.
